Richardson's backing of Obama
by rudolph williams
I think Bill Richardson backing of Barack is because the math shows that Hillary won't be the nominee. Although Richardson is supposely close friends with the Clinton's everybody loves a winner and who knows maybe Richardson can get a post in the Barak cabinet. This move by Richardson will also help Barack with the Latino vote, when Richardson stomps for Barack. In summary it all good for Barack and once again the perception that Barack will be the nominee is moved forward by the Richardson decision.

Richardson is a diplomat. I would think he would make a great secy of state.

Clinton is officially hanging by a thread with this endorsement. Let's hope the folks in Phillie and Pitt come to their senses so we can snip that thread ASAP.

"I think Bill Richardson backing of Barack is because the math shows that Hillary won't be the nominee."

Likely, as is a quid pro quo in the mix. Richardson as vp would cure Obama's Hispanic problem.

I am quite certain that Richardson chose Obama because he believes that Obama will get the nomination and it has been obvious that he is auditioning for a post (I'm sure he hopes for VP).

I think, though, that he should have waited a little longer. I am still not certain that Obama has the nomination and if Hillary gets it, friend or not, Richardson might find himself out in the cold.

I would be sorry to see that.........I like Richardson.

He is no longer a "friend" of Clinton's. He admits they were very "heated" when they failed to change his mind prior to his announcement. He would be a great Secy of State should this country be lucky enough to elect Obama.

I'm not surprised... that Richardson and the Clintons are no longer friends.

I believe he would make a great Secy of State though.

"I think, though, that he should have waited a little longer."

I think Richardson needed to deliver, as the other interesting candidate for vp would be Kathy Sebelius; governor of Kansas, female, centrist, successful Democrat in a red state. She has already endorsed Obama and she plays well to the "sisterhood" crowd. If Obama loses the general, she will run for president in '12.

From what I've heard of and from Sebelius, she will indeed soon be a force to reckon with and would be a great VP choice.

While Obama needs to go with a white male (Edwards?) he, in a way, needs not to go there.

I am not certain that an Obama/ Richardson ticket would be a winner. Maybe an Obama/ Sebelius would be better (except that name recognition is not there yet).

"While Obama needs to go with a white male (Edwards?) he, in a way, needs not to go there."

If Obama goes with a white guy, he need someone more in the center, preferably with some foreign or military credentials. Edwards won't bring anything new to the table and has proven he can't win his home state.

Richardson is well qualified, appeals to Hispanics, is "western," was NRA supported, and is fairly centrist. The drawbacks are that he didn't get many votes in the primaries.
