I am swf of 40,by chioce! What really chaps me is how women can have babies(many as they want) collect county,state money and insurance(even dental)! collect child support, even get their rent paid,Have a low paying part time job,then turn around and file taxes and get thousands back??? when other SWF work our tales off just to pay our rent, God help us if we need medical attention,dental??? I thought I was smart not to bring children up in this world..Guess not..I'll just pay pay pay poor me! anyone else feel this??I listened in my health class&parents!

I think that you are right to be upset about women who abuse the system by having babies for the sole purpose of getting paid by the state. However, I think that it is a stereotype to categorize all single moms this way. Unfortunately, the actions of a few are attributed to all single mothers. I am sorry, but I doubt that all single mothers have babies because they are stupid or want to get taxpayer money. And some single mothers do raise their children and hold down a full-time job. I know, its mindblowing that some do the right thing! I think it is sad that we live in this mindset that all single mothers are stupid, naive women, who abuse the system.

I'm a single mother and I agree with you. I work hard enough to wear I don't need state assistance and never have. It's disgusting what some of these women do. As I previously stated in another comment. This really needs to be looked into. After a certain amount of children it should be stopped. Did I read an article somewhere about sterelizing teenage mothers in North Carolina in th 70's? I can't remember it was a while ago. That's a little extreme, but I can understand why it was done. This type of single mother makes us all look bad.

Yes ,I could go on and on. Not all single moms for sure!!! What about generation after generation?? Its just wrong! PARENTS TEACH YOUR CHILDREN WELL!!!

but are you reading this article? and are you stating facts or opinion? I, personally, don't know ANY woman who chose to have children only so she could get welfare and earned income. What an idoit statment! Obviously this is an opinion based on no real experiences. MOST of the single parents (note how i said parents, not mothers, as if women are the blame) ARE NOT on welfare. Many of the single parents this article seems to be refering to are people who are together, but not married.

I mean really, on an intellectual level, why do you assume that single parents have low paying part time jobs or reaping all of these benefits? What evidence to you have to support your opinions?

Ahem, let's call it as it is: some of you are referring to a particular race & class in that race. Inner city mostly. This is not what the article is about. It is about single, older women CHOOSING to be single parents.

Statistically, all single female parents are loosers who raise loosers.

Yes it is. I once did a series of audits on children's aid files. In many files, the women had a child every 4 years, starting about 17. Each child had a different father and in one memorable case, the only thing she could remember about him was that the wore a green hat!

This kept them from having to find a job until they got into their late 40's. Most of the kids were taken away between 10 and 14 - too expensive to feed, I suppose.

There are contraceptives that can be implanted and last for 5 years. These need to be used.
