Phone books
by fatibel

As someone who has moved every few years for most of my adult life, I always look forward to getting a local phone book. The main reason is that despite all the information available on the internet, when I need to get my utilities connected, find a decent chinese takeout place in my neighborhood or a veternarian for my dogs the phone book has better, more complete information.

If the vet has a web page I can sometimes get additional information there, but not every business has a web page and those that do often have just a face page with much the same information I can find in a yellow pages ad.

Granted, online directories are getting better, but so far I'm still using the phone book for local needs.

I recently had to compile a list of local hotels. Google gave me 15 pages of results where at least half the entries were either duplicates or not really hotels. A phone book (or the book's website counterpart) is much more useful because listings are restricted to those companies who pay to be placed there.
