How Sullivan Got Iraq Wrong

At minimum, you should have realized that your president was a man who had failed at everything he'd ever attemped. He is a dangerous, spoiled, petulant little child. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, and we all knew that. We knew that the inspectors had, in fact, gotten back into Iraq and that there was nothing there ... nothing. We also now know, from Paul O'Neill, that Bush and Cheney began to plan the Iraq War before 9/11. We knew he gleefully signed every death warrant presented and that he mocked Karla Faye Tucker. You and your fellow war cheerleaders have blood on your hands. I'd suggest sending whatever money you made from writing this to the families of the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis you helped kill.

Nobody has ever said that Iraq had anything to do with 911. Why don't you stop beating that dead horse? And as far as the dead Iraqis "we helped kill", I don't hear any sympathy for the million that Saddam killed and for the 10k that he gassed. What WMD's indeed.

It was Dick Cheney's job to openly and falsely accuse Saddam Hussein of having ties to Al-Qaeda before 9/11. The rest of the Bush administration was content to follow up on Cheney's opening by mentioning 9/11 and Saddam Hussein in the same sentence every chance they could.

Remember that photo of Rumsfeld shaking Saddam Hussein's hand? That was taken during the Reagan administration when US foreign policy was to cheer on Iraq in its murderous war with Iran. Are the millions killed then the ones you are referring to?

"It was Dick Cheney's job to openly and falsely accuse Saddam Hussein of having ties to Al-Qaeda before 9/11"

How handy then that he had Janet Reno's Justice Department and the guys at DoD who targeted Tomahawks for Khartoum for precedent.

"...al Qaeda reached an understanding with the Government of Iraq that al Qaeda would not work against that government and that on particular projects, specifically including weapons development, al Qaeda would work cooperatively with the Government of Iraq..."

"The U.S. knew bin Laden had been pursuing the development of chemical weapons "within his organization and in cooperation with Sudan's National Islamic Front..."

Your first link references a 238-count indictment as the source of your quote. "Kitchen sink" indictments are not proof. Indeed, Cheney himself didn't refer to this particular allegation. The tie Cheney did make between Al Qaeda and Iraq was discredited long ago by none other than the CIA.

No one doubts that Al Qaeda had ties to Sudan. So what?

richtexan - thanks for sending your mentally-challenged governor to DC to blow up the world. And of course Saddam was a monster, but he was far less efficient at killing Iraqis than we are. Plus, they had running water and electricity. He was contained - no reason to have attacked. I'm guessing you're a two-time Bush voter. If so, why don't you send some money yourself to a charity to help the Iraqis?

"they had running water and electricity"

By all means-- post your proof that Iraq's infrastructure was in better condition before the invasion than it is now, and your evidence that any degradation to it is the fault of the US.

Electricity info here. I'll do the water later - shouldn't take long.

I am dying for some good news and would love to see you lay out for all of us here in the Fray how life has improved for the average Iraqi under our management. Don't forget to mention any improvements to their economy, medical care, education, and security. If it is too hard to find detailed data to support all of the improvements in Iraq post Saddam, you can use macro data like birthrates and deathrates, or you can just make some up.

If the hundreds of billions of dollars we're giving to Halliburton, Blackwater, and other war profiteers wasn't being looted, then maybe we would see improvements to their economy, medical care, education, and security.

"improvements to their economy, medical care, education, and security"

Measured how? From when to when? Reported by whom? With what independent verification?

Words fail me after statements like this......I find it utterly depressing that people are actually dumb enough to believe it. Sadly the majority of the DNC is part of this group of people that appear to be just that dumb. Feel free to put down the kool aide.
