Marriage won't save children. And I'm offended that every discussion of human welfare is based on what economic class one ends up in. Do we all really have to buy into that?

Having worked with kids for 20 years, having been one, having had them--having lived with divorce--both as a child and as a parent I provide this opinion:

Until we as a society work on valuing becoming adults emotionally (not being adults in the manner of walking through external culturally mandated benchmarks) than we will not produce children who will be able to make strong LOVING families.

It's not a matter of how many parents. It is a matter of children having adults who are committed to being a parent, to loving their child, and who can model what it is to be a mature human being.

We see glimmers of this now and then--but being mature isn't a big part of our culture. Why we are so enamored with the biological imperative to reproduce while at the same time not being aware that it takes some finesse to raise a child to become a whole person amazes me.
