That's kind of an ironic wish, given that he was an atheist.

I hadn't heard that he died, though - thanks for the tipoff. Sir Arthur C. Clarke has always been one of my favorite authors, both for his fiction and for his non-fiction. Naturally I got curious and looked for an obituary, which came in only four hours ago as I write.

Clarke's three laws From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Arthur C. Clarke formulated the following three "laws" of prediction:

  1. When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong.
  2. The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.
  3. Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
