Frankly, I can't imagine why Fitzgerald cracked (maybe for the first time in his career) and let Cheney off the hook, but it does appear he did. Maybe they threatened to send his wife and mother to Gitmo? Whatever they did, it seems to have worked so far.

Ambassador Wilson suggests treason might be a good place to start. I personally would like to see the statute (signed into law by George H. W. Bush) that provides for penalties up to and including death for revealing the identity of an active C.I.A. applied here.

I'm sure he knew more about Iran-Contra and other dark aspects of the Reagan years and he died peacefully "of a brain tumor." I doubt Cheney is that much of a patriot.

The issue discussed is whether the records of Cheney's conversations with Fitzgerald should be disclosed. Fitz obviously knew what those conversations were, and didn't find anything to prosecute. Not that he didn't try. The Libby case shows he was trying desperately to find something, anything to prosecute.

Are you suggesting that Fitzgerald is an ineffective prosecutor, or that he is corrupt?

You make several good points, and, yes, after nine years of hearing Cheney tell the whole country to, "Go Fuck Yourself," I am impatient. I am also completely convinced that to allow this man to die peacefully in his own bed would be a terrible injustice, one that would do much harm to our nation.

BTW: I owe you a personal apology, for being so pointlessly hateful about your photo contest. You were correct, if I did not like it I should have made no comment and just let everyone else enjoy.

that publication of many of these documents would compromise any legal proceeding against Cheney.

This would explain why he is double-dog daring the Obama Administration to publish it.

Rather than simply assuming that everyone is an idiot and that no one knows how to do their job, it might be more responsible to see what kind of actual legal merit the DOJ might be trying to build in the various cases they are trying to win.

I don't know how extensively you have researched Cheney's actions as VP, but one of the amazing things he did was follow up nearly every single Executive Branch act with a legislative bill (passed by a willing Congress) and an Agency Regulation. Thus, his "Executive Orders" and various dealings are not fixed so easily as a simple rescision. Those that were have already been overturned.

But by following up with actual bills filed, shepherded through committee, passed by Congress and signed by the President it is impossible and highly unethical for the current administration to go in and simply wipe out that act. To make a change to some Cheney shit that has been codified by Congress and Regulatory Rule requires a lot more time and intelligence than that.

So try not to get so impatient. Cheney was a very serious person with an incredible grasp of the details.

Any crimes that Cheney may have committed (and I am not convinced he did any) pale into insignificance in the light of all that Urkel and his mob are doing to destroy our constitution.

Why aren't we able to even see what lying crap he told Fitzgerald? All of this concern about future Vice Presidents and other high administration officials not cooperating with investigations is utterly unconvincing. One Obama lawyer even went so far as to suggest such revelations might contribute to, ". . . an increased likelihood that such officials could feel reluctant to participate."

Pardon me? Twelve years ago President Clinton was thoroughly, "reluctant to participate," but that didn't prevent Ken Star and "The House Managers" from forcing him to testify about such things as peculiarities in the appearance of his penis, nor did it stop them from including such fucking bizarre testimony in the Congressional Record!

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington hit the nail on the head:

"Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, responded yesterday with a statement that the Justice Department has subpoenaed such officials without difficulty in the past. 'It is astonishing that a top Department of Justice political appointee is suggesting other high-level appointees are unlikely to cooperate with legitimate law enforcement investigations.
