1. I saw Indy and LOVED IT!

2. I saw Iron Man and LOVED IT!

3. I saw Sex and the City (and NEVER watched the show, EVER) and LOVED IT!

Why? Because each one entertained me and I didn't try to read too deep into any one of them. They are ENTERTAINMENT only and not meant to be something deep, even if you can get a little bit of deep out of it.

Of course, whether anyone else wants to see those movies and/or likes those movies doesn't matter to me because everyone's taste is their own. If you don't like that kind of movie, don't see it. My husband goes to see movies (and watches movies at home) that I don't want to see (he just watched Bloodrayne 1 and 2 the last two nights - NO FUCKING THANK YOU). I just pick up a book and sit next to him and we keep each other company doing our thing.

I certainly wasn't going to make him see Sex and the City. I'm the odd girl that likes to see most action/sci-fi/adventure movies and I like chick flicks, too (but it depends on the quality. Some are just too cliche and stupid and not well-written and others, like SATC, are highly entertaining). My husband simply doesn't like chick flicks. He saw Titanic twice with me (and cried both times) and he watched Enchanted with our little girls (but that's what daddy's are supposed to do!), but otherwise, no, he won't see them and I won't make him. It's stupid. Just like he doesn't make me watch the movies he likes to watch.

In any event, I thought it was a great movie. I laughed my ass off through most of it and it made me miss my high school/college girlfriends (most of whom are living in and around NYC and I'm here on the Left Coast in the Land of Fruits and Nuts).

All in all, I was highly entertained and when I see a movie, that's all that matters to me.

Harumph.

Cheers.

Re: Just Don't Care

hey -- where'd my even-spaced layout get to?!

Re: Just Don't Care

by Tarquin Machismo
05/30/2008, 4:31 AM #

That's an unfair comparison. Sex & the City is like dragging a woman to see a Dolph Lundgren flick.

Hey -- I dunno about that comparison -- there are plenty of guilty pleasures to be had from, say, Universal Soldier, and I'm not talking about beefcake - more the corny dialogue and hilariously bad acting and the fung-phooey, chop socky action.

I'm with the women upthread who'd rather see Indy 4 (which I really, truly enjoyed immensely) and Iron Man (love love LOVE Downey Jr -- seeing it tomorrow) than the (rather desperate-sounding) S&TC movie.

Re: Just Don't Care

Women : if you think you're man has no feelings and is incapable of crying, just take him to watch Sex & the City.

QED

Definitely buy the boat. I don't like sex in the city at all. I'm going tonight though-my friend is going with a huge group of people and they have an extra ticket and I haven't been out or to a movie in a while so I figured I'd see what the fuss is about.

So that's the thing, it's not about gender at all, it's about how tastes differ in relationships. I happen to have friends who will all be dying to see the most crap-tacular "chick flicks" ever made. And I will usually end up watching them. Why? because I want to hang out with my friends, and there's no way in hell they'll concede to like, going to a rock show or seeing any of the movies I like. I find THAT interesting- how certain people in a group end up grudgingly molding their social life around what the others like and it's not reciprocated.

And for the record- my grouchy, mid-60s dad thinks the show is hilarious (and why shouldn't he? the outcome made it the most conservative show on television). He likes it much more than I do.

Re: It was never about men

biteoftheweek:
