There was very little anti-black racism in the USSR because there were no blacks in the USSR. As far as recent history goes - 80ies and upward, USSR-Russia are hardly the worst ones. For example, in a small nation in Africa, they recently killed a million of so people. The main reason was - they were of a wrong tribe. Not that it qualifies as racism for liberals, cause, I assume when blacks kill blacks - this is all white man's fault. Right?

What I am suggesting, Degsme, is that the poor white kid and the poor black kid BOTH ought to have their circumstances taken into account when competing with an elite white OR an elite black kid.

That seems to me to be basic justice. The notion that a child of a black doc from the Hamptons ought to get preference over a white kid born to Appalacian rock farmers is obscene. And yet it is the law of the land today.

That's a false comparison. Because the children of those three are not competing with a poor white Appalachian white kid. They instead are competing with the son's of Jeb Bush, who's ability to get into elite prep schools, universities and jobs is enhanced by "legacy's" created at a time when racism and white male privilege were not only legal, but legally enforced.

In the face of such structural racism the children of elite non-whites still need affirmative action to compete with elite whites.

Why would such racism still exist? Remember that at the head of the elite Law Partnerships, Corporate executive suites etc. are classmates of Scalia. Classmates who entered business at the same time did so at a time when racism was still legally enforced. To suggest that these individuals could shed their acculturated biases they were brought up with is to suggest that a leopard can change its spots. No not all of them were/are overtly racist, but that acculturation is requires a level of effort to overcome that very few take.

The poor white kid from Appalachia is no more competing with Malia Obama, than he is with Jebby Bush. So your comparison simply isn't meaningful.
