cultural nonsense
by Dickey Roscombe

Maybe I'm just being picky here, but if you're going to toss out terms like "Prustian revery" maybe you ought to make sure all your pretentious gabfesters know how to pronounce Nabokov's name. Not that this is in itself such a terrible offense, but the juxtaposition of such gratuitous name dropping with the inability to listen to the own man's protestations against slaughtering his own name (in Strong Opinions at least, and possibly in Speak, Memory as well) seems to highlight everything that is so terribly, horribly wrong with this gabfest.

I adore the political gabfest, and have been trying to force myself to enjoy the cultural gabfest. Maybe if they could figure out a way to avoid the sophomoric intellectual posturing or the inane joke repetition (mentioning that Stephen Colbert called dibs on Elliot Mess twice within five minutes is beyond lazy) it would be worth the space on my hard drive. As is, it's a real disaster.
