When discussing the "collateral damage" done to the family of a serial adulterer, no one seems to want to bring the really ugly out into the open. We can yawn on and on about the drop in social status of a Mrs. Spitzer, and her children. But every time I see one of these political wives standing silently by her man as he makes his obligatory, 'I'm so sorry I failed you all' speech, I'm not thinking of her drop in social status, or the gossip whirlwind that will toss her around for the 15 minutes of front page gossip-news. Rather, I look at her and think how sad that she's is the victim of his arrogance and his sense of entitlement that will give her every sexual disease that he has come in contact with in his quest to uphold the self-image of the alpha male. Did he have sex with a woman who was HIV positive? Gential herpes? Gential warts? Take your pick. He didn't care. He doesn't know. Since the advent of the AIDS epidemic, this standing by your man business is only for women who want to commit suicide, because nothing will change the behaviour of a serial adulterer. It is time for women to become really outraged at this behaviour, and cease to allow themselves to be stoic victims for the sake of keeping up appearances. Ladies, you deserve to live, and not settle for living at the gutter standards of an adulterer. As for the "collateral damage" done to Mr. Spitzer's daughters, well, I'm certain they will learn a great deal from the examples set by their parents.
