Have we forgotten?
by Ann Newton
One week ago, it was clear that if Hillary did not win with >60% margins in both Ohio and Texas, she could not get the nomination. When did the standards change? Yes, she won technical victories, but they are meaningless. To be honest, if Obama were to play the Clinton game, he would declare his Texas caucus win as his 13th win and stage a victory celebration in San Antonio (remember Florida). Now that Hillary has won, this would be the perfect time to bow out. She has not been embarassed, a real possibility a week ago and a situation that many people would have unfortunately relished. She could now bow out for the sake of the party, aware that her stature would be great and that Obama would have to acknowledge her largesse. (Possible seat on the Supreme Court?) If the situation were reversed, I would recommend the same to Obama. Life is too short to be known as Nader 2000 Redux.
