... because we live in a society which prizes talking a lot but saying nothing. Gibberish is common and becoming more common by the minute. And nowhere is this more evident than in sports, because let's face it, how many ways are there to say, "We lost" or "We won"?

The pointlessness of locker-room interviews and pre- and post-game press conferences is staggering. What, really, does anyone expect coaches, players, managers, owners, etc. to say, other than "we plan to do our best" or "we did our best"? Please. Few things in life are as amazingly futile!

"It is what it is" is of course not limited to sports. It is, however, still jargon. And jargon is the last resort of the idiot who's run out of things to say but refuses to admit it.
