EDGONZA6, you know what it sounds like to me? I think that if you had been born to Muslim parents in, say, Saudi Arabia ... that you would be Muslim yourself, and this post would start off with "I'm a Muslim." I wonder if you ever considered how you came to identify as Christian? Was it after a careful study of all the religions / belief systems that the world has to offer?
One thing Hitch is trying to get you to realize is that this country is still overwhelmingly Christian, and -- despite the original intentions of our forefathers -- there are still a large number of people who look no deeper than a presidential candidate's religious beliefs when casting their votes.
Take my sister's friend for example. She's supporting Huckabee solely because he's a protestant Christian like herself. In our discussion, she had NO knowledge of his plans for the economy, health care, foreign policy, etc.
Unfortunately, many of these people have no respect for the other side of the argument. When I told her I would NOT vote for Huckabee due to his religious fervor (amongst other things), she became quite upset and confrontational. I think that's the point.
Nobody said Hitchens or other athiests "don't have the right" to vote for these reasons... but we do take a lot of shit for it from what feels like a lot of the people around us (it varies with one's local I suppose).
