Hi Truth,

The "shoot at me" was more directed at Lunesta, who seemed ready to pepper any pro-Obama supporter with hot lead if they got anywhere close to this thread.

From what I've read (both at the time and later analysis) about the medicare/healthcare reform from the early Clinton years, it seems as though the failure at least partially stemmed from Mrs. Clinton's unwillingness to compromise with the Republican legislators. Several people (on both sides...sorry I can't remember their specific names) have lamented that the Clintons took a "my way or the highway" approach. I don't deny that the deck was stacked, but would it not have been better to try for some sort of compromise?

I'll concur that contemporary elections are vastly different from those of 200, 100, or even 50 years ago, but I think the principle that applied to Lincoln, Washington, and Eisenhower--that sometimes a candidate comes along who may lack conventional experience but has the personal merits to become a great President--still is applicable today. I think Obama could be that President. And I don't want to wait 8 years for him.
