"the Mormon church clearly condemns other religious systems. Those Mormons who complain about poor treatment should familiarize themselves with their teachers' words."
To TruettCollins,
I am a mormon and I know my teachers words very well. The controversial and noncontroversial alike. I also know the words you anti mormons put into their mouths, like the salamander stories and the Adam-God theory.
None of the quotes you dug up clearly condemns any one religious group. Those statements could be easily applied to people like Jimmy Jones, who were obvious frauds, without condemning any one religion. No one can deny there are false priests, and at that time, many such priests were stealing peoples money for their own profit and inspiring hateful pogroms against the LDS people.
All of those quotes were very general and closely mirrored the prophesy of the Saviour himself saying "They draw near to me with their lips but their hearts are far from me" As far as believing in the singularity of the Church as the one true church, it is my understanding that every major Catholic and Protestant Denomination has at least at one time held that to be true of their own. It is in the creeds that are commonly cited including the first "God's one true, Catholic Church." This is also a creed that others adopted. Hence the existence of "denominations." I expect my non-mormon friends to believe that their church is the true church, and can be their friend regardless. Why would they follow a particular religion if they didn't think it was true? You can be a good person without a church. Tolerance doesn't mean you have to be mealy-mouthed about your beliefs. These discussions can even be impassioned and you can still walk away as friends.
What you won't find is Mormon publications doing venemous hit jobs on the Southern Baptist Convention, with sensationalized reports, or on the Catholics. You might find individual mormons who have, and don't bother because I know who they are. You will not, however, find the LDS church sanctioning a declaration that any particular church is a "theological cult" for adopting ideas that with which we disagree.
