Democrats and Republicans have many differences but in truth the main difference is the degree of government involment that they want into peoples' lives. Democrats tend to want the government to get more involved and republicans tend to want the government less involved. And deep down we all know it and that is why we elect a democrat when we think the government needs to get more involved and we elect a republican when we need the government to back down.
Neither democrats nor republicans are inherently good or evil. Both McCain and Obama seem to be good decent people. They both want our country to prosper and be at peace but they have different visions of how to achive this.
If you think that Universal Healthcare, more social programs, more spending and more diplomacy will get us there vote for Obama. If you think that the government can help but it is not the absolute solution to our economic problems and that in order to achieve peace you need to show military strenght vote for McCain, Catholic or not.
