I'm not a fan of David Shuster so it's easy for me to say he had what was coming to him. However, if I thought he had been treated unfairly I would still defend the guy--I'm also a writer. The truth of the matter is that using the word "pimp" was inappropriate. Maybe journalists, among themselves, might use that lingo, but it was rather insulting to a young woman...whether it be Chelsea Clinton or anyone else.
It's true that the Clintons have gotten plenty of 'free passes' from the press, but that's not Chelsea's fault or sin. When I ran for city council in Harrisburg twenty+ years ago, my sons worked the buses with me. I would have been outraged if anyone had suggested any improper language referring to their loyalty. Chelsea has every right to be proud; after all it was not her mother who disgraced the presidency. It's the father that gets 'free passes' from just about every politician in the world.
I'm a loyal Republican who supports J. McCain, but I am also a parent and like to think of myself as a gentleman; that's more than I've ever thought of D. Shuster. Chris Matthews could do better!
Maybe MSNBC went a bit too far; perhaps they could have had someone take Shuster to the woodshed--oh, that's right...that would have been politically "incorrect."
