I thought it was a perfectly average twee little movie

Really, it's a miracle that it was even watchable with that awful soundtrack and the faux-penciled-in titles that announce the seasons and those gruesome shots of that little boy's legs. Not to mention the stomach-churning pedophilic rock-star-wannabe subplot. And all the idiotic dialogue about bad bands and Argento... but watchable it was, and a lot of that's thanks to the really strong acting. Even Garner was really good. And maybe I'd like it even better if I was more into the geeky hipster subculture instead of being the preppy white male college student that I am. And, it's not as if there are any really strong Best Picture contestants; There Will Be Blood starts off strong and turns into an SNL parody of Citizen Kane, No Country For Old Men is just dumb, and the best movie of the year, Zodiac, wasn't even nominated. But to give the award to this thing would be a travesty. Then again, they gave Best Picture to Million Dollar Baby and Crash and those have to be the two worst movies of the decade, so it's not as if the Academy can make a bigger joke out of the Oscars than it already has.
