That's a little nutso, Dan O! But in a way, you're right: the co-op is (or, presumably, was) a way to PREVENT change or instability in the "industry." It's a bunch of separate corporations engaging in collusion, controlling prices, driving out competitors, etc... And who gets screwed by these groups? The workers and the consumers.
Marlo, though, is effectively an even worse option: he's a monopolist. He's a Trust. He aims to control the entire industry, and without any regulating force, he's free to be absolutely ruthless. Up until now, the industry (as we have seen it) has been able to regulate itself (such as it has), with its "code." But Marlo is taking to the next level, as a pure capitalist always will.
