Don't take yourself so seriously
by esya

Yeah, the lifelong message to attractive blondes (and likely other women also) is, "don't take yourself so seriously". We do need a sense of humor about ourselves, and among friends, that comes out. I make jokes about myself all the time, I am 53 blonde and have worked all my professional life for racial and gender equality of opportunity. Hillary is a bit, shall we say, stiff.

But look at the men who get elected: Reagan was a professional clown (make everyone feel good while King Capitalism enacts decrees), Carter a well meaning do-gooder, Kennedy a family scion, Bush I--a nothing, and Bush II--a stubborn idiot. Clinton was just a more successful Gary Hart--he only got caught after winning.

So when you put her up against all of them I say--why the hell not? She has earned her stripes and deserves the same chance. As for Obama, I think he is the same liberal chicago democrat as the rest of them, plus a Harvard aristocrat patina, and the only reason the conservatives prefer him is they KNOW he does not have as much chance of winning or as changing policy as her. Anyone who can say he is more "real" than she is never met her. The thing to fear about Hilary is her intellect and her grit, not her looks or her humor. All of the conservatives that I work with daily know that about her--the "divisiveness" that so many cite is really just the measure of conservative misogyny that a failure to vote for her will make legitimate. You can't name one action that she has taken that was intentionally "divisive". That's just the hook she got when the conservative right name-calling started.

When arrogant self-important climbers take pot shots then I think it is OK for a woman to get serious (and come on, it was Obama's staff that raised the race implication--all she was saying was, it's great to make inspiring speeches but what counts is what you can get done).

Hilary ought to make more fun of Obama--I ran against someone just like him in Illinois once and recognize the classic signs of self importance. Obama would be a stitch when he got riled--nothing like an angry egotist. But then the classic retort of any heckler is the line, "Come on, can't you take a joke?"

This whole conversation just goes to show you that the film clip is NOT a joke, but a true emotional mirror for many young voters who just can't stand the idea of electing their mom to be president. There is some real hostility in these posts, along with a few folks that really can step back and laugh.

Which reminds me of the adage: you don't learn from success, you learn from failures. That's why she is my man.
