MLB and Steroids
by Porkins

Bowman's article states that the DoJ is pursuing prosecution of the wrong people by going after the suppliers rather than the players. Yet he also compares steroid use to that of other illegal drugs such as cocaine. Does the system not seek to impose harsher penalties on dealers than users? Do the police not try to turn users into informants to go after "the bigger fish"?

Bowman is wrong- attacked drug use by prosecuting users has failed at every turn, resulting in trillions of wasted dollars in the so-called war on drugs. Attempts to restrict behavior in this way ultimately fail.

If anyone is to blame for MLB's drug scandal, it is MLB officials, not the players or suppliers. MLB has overlooked rampant use of myriad drugs for decades so long as that use fueled offensive output and, by proxy, ticket sales. The hypocrisy of vilifying a select few players for this particular drug in this particular time illustrates how unfit the current commissioner is, and how poorly MLB understands its role with regard to the league and the public.
