Re: Not doing it at the direction of their church
by RML

This is my point.

Some churches have POWER and others are just a social club.

Baptists dont have to go to church to ask permission to get married or to go hang a black man-the members do what they do and ask forgiveness as invididuals, but the church doesnt organize their acts of ignorance.

Other churches are more like "cults" as you call it. The leader demands lots of attention and commands his people like soldiers. Keep in mind what happened in the massacre and you will see what I mean:

1-over 50 loyal LDS militia (good Christians all) were willing to observe the surrender of these innocent people including teenage boys-weapons handed over in return for safe passage-these people, like Nazi stormtroopers, knowingly participated in treachery-they took orders and no conscience kicked in-they didnt say "Mr Lee I am a christian-we cannot do this"

2-The survivors of the massacre-by design all young children-were then distributed BY THE CHURCH to adoptive families to be raised as Mormons. The US government eventually got these kids back to their families (uncles, aunts, etc) but the children were not sent back until the government demanded it-the church was more than happy to add them to their flock after slaughtering their parents.

Was this equal to a hanging? It was certainly a tragedy, but it was organized and managed by an authority-a whole lot different than judging the individuals-in this case we are seeing a church with great power over its flock-telling them what to do and even going beyond what might be considered christian morals.
