Re: Baptists didnt massacre unarmed people
by RML

You both ignored what I said here. Yes, I agree that Baptists and other Christians did indeed do awful stuff on their own, but the church isnt centralized in those religions and the people are often starting splinter groups, acting on their own, etc.

The LDS was more like the Catholic church, with a centralized command and control for the faith and with key decisions being made back in Salt Lake City-note that Lee was a direct reporting person to Young, not some crazed lone gunman-and he had a militia who took orders to kill these people after a negotiated white flag safe passage agreement-how do you get those people to follow orders like that without Youngs approval? And the Indians who also backed it? It was pretty gosh darn elaborate.

Young and the LDS church spent a lot of time denying it happened and when they finally let the US soldiers come and take the children back, the story got a little fuzzier. LDS has been holding out the facts-their own website made it a point to address the massacre, admit it was a bad thing, but then kind of side step the churchs involvement. Of course that makes it easier to hide because they can say "see we posted it-we admit it happened" but the evidence seems to implicate the church while the church tries hard to pretend it wasnt involved.
