Re: Baptists didnt massacre unarmed people
by RML

"To state, or even believe, that Bapists haven't "massacre(d) unarmed people" is in istself to live in a state of denial. And, to lay at the feet of a Mormon today the acts of a leader in that faith over 100 years ago is an exercise in bigotry."

The Baptists who killed innocent people were not doing it at the direction of their church-they were ignorant evil people but not with church instructing them.

The LDS was actively settling Utah and Brigham Young was a leader very much obsessed with control of his people, his faith, and with the war for independence from the US government (he was hoping to have an LDS country). The massacre at Mountain Meadows was well planned, highly orgnanized and involved a militia, a direct report to Young (who was conveniently executed) and negotiations with the local Indians to gain their support for the massacre-hardly some loose cannons. This was all just a century ago and the church remains quite secretive and controlling of its members-it is not bigotry to consider the ramifications of putting a leader into power with obligations to a church with a history of abuse of power and deceptive acts of treachery.
