Time to Be Bold in a New Way
by Trainer12
I agree with Krugman, but we have to communicate with the public in a new way. In case you missed this on C-Span, you really need to see, hear and read the books of these panelists. George Lakoff, Drew Western, Nicholas Lemann, Deborah Tannen and Frank Luntz. At least part two of this series. If we are ever going to change politics and win the 'hearts and minds" of the American people, we need to change what we say and how we say it to everybody we come in contact with. I caught part of Part II of "There We Go Again: Orwell Comes to America" from the New York Public Library by accident on CSPAN, which rebroadcast this from Nov 7 & 8 from NYC. You can watch it, or hear it on line. It is well worth your time. If progressive ideas, values and vision are ever going to gain any traction, we have to learn these lessons and apply them now. Here is the URL: <link> Kucinich and progressives can win if they use these ideas of framing their message and defining the debate in progressive terms and not conservative terms. Example: ending the occupation of Iraq versus ending the war in Iraq. Medicare for all versus single payer, universal health care or health care for kids versus SCHIP. Branding your terms is much easier thatn re-branding. Being of the offensive is better than being on the defensive. Ex. Is it supporting the troops by putting them in the middle of a civil war versus I support the troops by bringing them home.
