Now come on, haven't you ever sold something as "Like new in box" on ebay? So long as the original purchase was well researched and you buy new at the lowest price you can find, reselling on eBay usually recoups 90% of the retail, a better return than the "restock fee" some merchants charge. It is even possible to resell something at a profit on eBay, if you bought it during a good enough sale; that's happened to me more than once. More than anything, this thread reveals the advantage of living near any big city, where there are plenty of high-end audio stores where you can audition equipment, and then go home and find the best price and order online.

Not so much in recent years, when shipping costs have become larger than the price of the merchandise.
