Nick Hornby's latest novel, Slam, is a great new addition to the young adult market. I picked it up because I enjoy his novels, not knowing the subject matter at all. It is a confessional from a 16 boy's perspective who gets his girlfriend pregnant. I would love to see this book in the hands of 14 year old everywhere. The descriptions of a teenage relationship ring so true and the immature reactions and pain the kids go through is written beautifully. Kids have a hard time imagining the consequences of their actions. This book spells it out in an entertainingly real way.
