Re: a connection between race and IQ is impossible
by willep
Apparently, there are a lot of scientific racists out there. Organized, funded even. I was not aware of that. I thought we had put that bugaboo to bed in 1945 but apparently not. This discussion and small but determined number of racists has led me to a conclusion: although it is likely fruitless and a waste of energy on one level, there should actually be work done (peer reviewed, real science) on the connection between IQ and population and genes. I think if a dis-initerested party were to set up a few large and fair studies -- work that knows that language and culture is not an asterick but the main impediment to getting a fair test and looks at population in a reasonable way (genetic testing, not observation) -- might be worthwhile to finally and absolutely put a nail in the coffin of this ridiculous Nazi psuedo-science. If you are a serious psychologist, a serious population geneticist, this research is unlikely to interest you because it is so unlikely to produce anything interesting. You are likely to find that culture is so powerful that a fair test is nearly impossible. You are likely to find that education is so vastly more important than genes that this line of research is a waste of time. And you are likely to find that there is no connection between population, let alone "race," and any behavior or characteristic on a genetic level. Still, the effort should be made. The Nazis are still among us and they are doing research to produce the results they want. That is the reason to waste time on useless research.
