Actually, I have to disagree. It's hard to imagine that any self-respecting god would create a slave republic like the U. S. was between 1787 and 1865. Along the same lines, what god would have ordained the brutal segregation that subsisted at least through the 1970's?

Like other societies, the United States was created by human beings like you and me. Certainly, it's just as appropriate to be grateful for the good things as it is to be critical of the bad.

But it's very hard to believe that a Christian god would want want to be associated with our society. Look at all the power and wealth this society has. If Jesus was divine, he would be the last divinity to be associated with our kind of society.
