Mr. Greenberg's article reminds me of that Regan biopic Staring James Brolin that never made it to the television. The films producers were lambasted for dishonestly portraying Regan as a racist and bigot; the project was shelved because the network didn’t want to take the hit. Brolin cried “Censorship”
I remember when Regan visited a German cemetery to honor casualties of WWII Jessie Jackson and TheLeft twisted it to seem as if he was honoring SS troupers.
Folks who are disdainful of; or uninterested in the public fisc have trouble really understanding mainstream Republican attitudes and are likely to infer racism when open handed public policy is challenged.
It was Nixon who romanced The Deep South after TheLeft had tossed stones upon the cretins. Regan is getting too much credit.
Ok. Alright. White Voters are tired of the constant drumbeat for racial equality, a drumbeat that proscribes speech codes that seems twisted coming from those who worshiped at the altar of Lenny Bruce.
Voters are weary of the constant racial cataloging; tired of the hearkening back to the days of slavery to spark a resentment of 21st Century issues that increasingly have less to do with public policy than social mores. I wonder that in America, are the champions of racial justice on the defense or on the offense? Are thry pure?
Does it surprise anyone that Academics want to paint Republicans in an unflattering light? Was school bussing a success?
Regan can not be viewed as in a vacuum. Who and what was campagaining against Regan in 1980 and to what extent did the positions of The Democrats affect the shaping of Regans platform?
Can any blame be placed upon the quota system which has since been so discredited in American life?
Could it be that Voters are wary of politicians who would turn out public moneys into a jobs program for their supporters and adherents?
It’s a lil more nuanced than racism.
