German's a lot easier to learn than English....
But someone learning English doesn't have to deal with noun gender at all. The fact that native speakers are still struggling to inflect their nouns suggests to me rather that German is a lifelong struggle. :-)
Noun gender is a pretty stupid reason not to want to learn a language. You're pretty much perpetuating every stereotype of an American there is, TT.
The fact that native speakers of English stuggle to say "might have" instead of "might of" suggests to me rather than English is a lifelong struggle.
Also, those who assume financial aid is freely available in the States are mistaken. I was a very high achiever from a very poor family and neither myself nor any of my similarly-situated friends were able to obtain high-class college education without taking on huge amounts of debt which we'll be paying off for decades.
The OP needs to break out of her shell and learn to compromise. I'm an American - a NYer in fact - who moved abroad to be with her partner. Not the easiest of things to do, but what an experience. It's much more child-friendly here, no worries about bankruptcy should you lose your job due to illness and have medical bills, etc., great quality of life and opportunities to see some great treasures of the world. I am a wandering type with solid but not paricularly close family relationships, and yes I get homesick but hey, there are planes and telephones and I've built up a great network over here, and what's more I can talk to my partner about how I feel when I do get homesick and what we can do about it.
If the OP would rather look after the administration of her home than the happiness of her husband, then it doesn't matter where they live because the relationship's worthless anyway.
