But consider the anti-tobacco campaigns: on one hand, you have scare tactics like pictures of cancerous lungs and assurances of a painful death on cigarettes packs. on the other hand, you have useful information about the benefits you accrue from kicking the habit.

  • within 24 hours of stopping, your lungs begin to expel tar
  • within 72 hours, energy levels rise and bronchial tubes begin to heal
  • in 1 year of quitting the risk of heart attack is halved
  • in 10 years, the risk of lung cancer is halved

PSAs and maybe cigarette packs should emphasize these positives of not smoking rather than try to scare smokers with the negatives. And unless similar parallels are drawn about pot, maybe pot smokers rightfully shouldn't be convinced about any health effects of pot at all.
