economically support a child or children on her own. Hence the increasing number of single women who adopt. Sure, they would have more if they had 2 incomes, but it isn't necessary. May I suggest that you watch some of the PBS "House" series and discover why the two person parented household was so important in the past. My child, who at the time was only 10 or 11, after watching several of these shows came to the conclusion that the reason that there were no female Presidents was because "...if the women didnt' stay at home and do all the cooking, cleaning and sewing, the children would have died."
As a single mother myself, I find myself sometimes wishing I had a few more dollars, but I'm able to support myself and my child with few problems. By the way, I was married and my ex-husband has chosen to abdicate his position as a father. Luckily, I chose my child's godfather very well and he has been an excellent role model for males for her.
