Humor and honesty works
by vezvilla

As a 41 year-old male, I am a little bit younger than the target demographic, but much older than the "frat-boy" demographic. Still, the first time I saw this ad, I laughed out loud. A short bursting cackle to be sure, but it is the rare commercial that elicits such a reaction. I do not find the manner in which this ad is presented offensive at all. On the contrary, I wish more ads would use humor in an honest, forthright way and forego the complicated (and boring) generic animations and delicate language. We are an aging population and with the boomers hitting their 60s, we can be both funny and honest to get our point across regarding healthy lifestyles that may or may not have to do with heretofore 'unmentionable' bodily issues. If only the advertising industry could find a way to get across similar messages regarding much more serious conditions and we could speak open and honestly about them as well.

As an aside, my wife had to watch this ad twice before she got what was going on in it. Maybe a different approach is needed to target women?
