Hello Slate!

I've been listening to The Gabfest for a while now and finally decided to jump into The Fray!

Over the past few weeks, I've heard Fred Thompson dismissed as a serious candidate for President. While I agree with the many reasons you dismiss him, the one item on the list I think you're forgetting is the strong "image" factor. Just look at his character in Hunt for Red October and you've got an image that is, well, presidential.

I've been working the the local TV news & weather world for the past 17-years and one of the unfortunate truths I've learned is, image wins out over substance every time.

You all make good points about why Fred Thompson won't be elected president. But most of those points probably aren't that big a deal to most conservative voters. With Fred Thompson's image, all he needs to do is hold the uneasy coalition of fiscal conservatives and cultural conservatives together and you have the next president of the United States.
