I personally don't care what Nike, Vogue, GQ, Playboy, MTV, Christians, Muslims, Inuits or anyone else says (though I have to admit, my wife would prefer that I pay a little more attention to GQ).
I think there is some confusion about the "it's rude to tell people they're going to hell line". I didn't argue that that evangelicals (or anyone else for that matter) has no right to say such things. Of course they have a right to say them. But my personal opinion is that it is fairly rude to tell someone you've just met that they're going to hell because they disagree with your opinions on which gods are "the one true gods". Would you be like it if people you didn't know came up to you on the street and told you that you were an idiot if you believe in the supernatural? (And just so no one is confused, I am not calling anyone an idiot here -- I am trying to illustrate a parallel situation where it might be a little more obvious that there is rudeness involved).
I am not scared of evangelicals who I meet on the street -- being told I go to hell doesn't bother me, other than the rudeness of telling a stranger where they'll end up. And hey, why should it -- I don't believe in heaven or hell. What does scare me is that evangelicals as a political movement very much want to make their views on god an integral part of government, which in turn means that it will affect me. I strongly disagree with putting prayer back in school. I strongly disagree with the tactics used to get creationism taught in school (why on Earth do religious folk want to mandate science curriculum). I strongly disagree with using the government to give money to churches and other religious organizations.
All I want as an atheist is to have the same rights with my beliefs as evangelicals have with theirs. I am not a lesser person than you just because we may disagree about what happens after we die.
I am not afraid of you being right. In fact, I fully accept that you could indeed be correct that there is some other being out there, manipulating the universe as it sees fit. I don't think this is correct and I haven't seen any evidence of it, but I recognize it as a valid opinion. Would you do me the same respect?
