Don't confuse the fundies with common sense and logic. It makes their brains hurt. Sustainable ecological practices mattered far more to the Hebrews than they do to modern Christians. The Hebrews lived in a harsh environment and knew they were going to be there for a while. Many Christians these days think they're living in the end times, so the world we leave to future humans isn't really the first item on their priority list.

I agree with Tikkun Olam principle, though. You have to balance growth with ecological common sense or you'll cut down all of your trees, pollute your waters, render your fields barren and basically commit societal suicide. I'll bet neither of the above posters who favored unrestrained childbirth have even heard of salinization, or would know that it's already destroyed countless acres of good farmland and continues to destroy more every year.

It makes me worry about the future of my species. Oh, I'll have children someday, but probably no more than two.
