What is the difference?
by hotlicks

During the Soviet's occupation of Afghanistan, the US supplied weaponry to the Mujahideen, including bin Laden and Al Qaeda to kill Soviet soldiers and contractors because we thought it was in our best interest to conduct a "Proxy" war with the Soviets, rather then a direct military confrontation.

Iran is doing the same, like America in the 80s, sending weapons to Iraq to obstruct America and kill Americans with the same lack of regard for the ultimate cost to the country and its people that are being occupied by what is perceived to be an adversary.

The only difference between Iran's activities in 2007 Iraq and America in Soviet-occupied Afghanistan is that Iran has more justification to indirectly confronting America with their influence in Iraq since Iran is on their border and we have 300,000 enemy combatants (miliary and mercenaries) on Iran's border, minutes from airstrikes, land invasions and naval blockades.

I believe that Iran is no friend of America but, likewise, it is their neighborhood and like our Monroe Doctrine, they have the right, no matter how foolhearted and impotent it seems, to issue their own Monroe Docdtine of sorts and be a thorn in hour sides.

Let us not confuse right & wrong with what we perceive to be in our best interests and their interferenece with Iraq and our arrogance in their neighborhood.

I have no problem with slapping Iran down but likewise, I have no allusions that we are wearing white hats and they are wearing cheap black suits.
