Re: delivery room poll - who should be in the audience?
by PugglePop

With my son I had my husband and mil in the room during delivery. I had everyone else removed.:) It was that or having a homicidal woman in labor. I told my mil she was absolutely NOT leaving my side. I don't have a mom, so she filled that space. Good thing she was there, she kept both my husband and I calm. My son was a large baby and his shoulders got stuck on my pelvis. The doctor was gearing up for an emergency c-section and had already called for the crash cart. Fortunately, I had fantastic nurses who were able to get the kid to pop out.:) I had no idea how dire the situation was until much later. Had she not have been there, my husband may have panicked.

With baby girl, I had my husband and sil (mil had passed years ago). Both my mil and this sil are nurses, so it's always nice to have your own medical staff with you. This birth was textbook easy. Both the girl and I were doing so well, and had our own OB/GYN nurse at home, that we went home a day early.:)

I found that the fewer people I had staring at me while I was giving birth, the better. In fact, I preferred to keep my visitors at a minimum in the hospital. I get claustrophobic easily, especially when chuckabluck full of hormones! Video? HECK NO! My nether regions do not belong in film, thank you. I watched both my kids' births via a mirror in the room. It was amazing and beautiful, I'll keep them in my memory always. No one else appreciates someone else's birthing videos anyway.:)
