But the nation doesn't elect Speakers. It's a fundamentally different system. Her disregard of public opinion nationwide will result in the defeat of a large number of Democrats next year. And very possibly the loss of control of Congress.

Really, you can't believe that Nancy Pelosi is wielding some sort of mandate from the people. She's trying to force as much through as possible before next year, because she knows damned well she has an anti-mandate that'll catch up to her if she doesn't beat the clock.

Beating the clock is possible in a republic. It's not admirable.
