Well, the Dem leadership, anyway. Caved to pro-life Dems. According to Jane Hamsher:

They totally caved because they couldn’t find the votes for their bill. Now they’ll try to jam it down the throats of pro-choice Dems. And they’ll probably succeed.

I have to agree with her assessment (gulp!). The pro-life Dems were the main threat to passing the bill in the House. After all, Pelosi can afford the defection of 40 Blue Dogs. Take away the abortion issue, and it should be smooth sailing.

Though it does complicate matters for those who:

1. Know the bill would lead to government-run healthcare; and
2. See that would mean no paid-for abortions at all.
