I get abandonment because it doesn't say "I tried killing an infant
so my father forced me into treatment...." instead it says "he stopped
trying to get in touch with me".
I see your other post where you
say she is a bad seed. I don't believe in bad seeds. I don't believe
anyone is inherently evil. In my mind there are two options: mentally ill or deliberately making a choice to act out. Or the third, didn't know better
but by 14 I think we can rule that out. So we are left with a legal
minor who is either mentally ill or deliberately making bad choices. In
either case it is the parent's responsibility to ensure that stops. Her
father did not do that so her father failed her.
I also disagree with your point that a 14 is old enough to be tried for murder. Look at any of the adolescent development research. Other than infancy, early teens is the age where an individual has the least control over their body. They do not have a fully developed frontal lobe. They are in the grip of hormones that they've never had to deal with before. Sure, most 14 year olds don't try to harm an infant but all of them are doing stupid stuff that an adult couldn't understand and even the kids themselves don't understand. And that isn't just my viewpoint - obviously enough experts agree that 14 year olds are NOT tried for murder.
Again, I'm not
saying that she is blame free. I'm just saying that he holds blame as
well. It is a very good thing that she managed to get herself on the
right track without any parental help (remember the nutty mother) but
she really shouldn't have had to walk that path alone.
