America is quickly becoming less white - so much so that there will not be an ethnic majority in America soon. It is also becoming younger as the Baby Boomers die off.

Young people and minorities did not vote in large numbers before because they were minorities and they were not being offered candidates that represented them. As they become a larger influence on the electorate, they have been having more candidates running for office that do represent them and they become more engaged in politics.
