The story notes that the officer who stopped the assailant is a civilian police Sergeant and not a military Sergeant, same title but two very different jobs. It is an apples and oranges thing. I will not weigh in on the question of women in combat but it is not helpful to say that since women make good police officers they must also make good combat soldiers.

And yes I was a Sergeant at Fort Hood a few years ago and yes I was once a combat soldier too. No, I never got paid to write annoying diatribes about controversial issues in the context of other more sensational news stories. Why exploit the context? Let the officer do her job without turning it into a political harangue.
