When temperature sets a record, high or low, it is doing something that is, by definition, of statistical significance.

Those are a brief sampling of RECORD low temperatures in modern recorded history -- they were not set in any "cherry picked" year -- they were recorded in 2008.

It is true that 1998 was a year of record high temperatures -- does that mean those record temperatures are insigificant, as I'm certain you'll say last years temperatures are?

It would seem to me that if global warming were the trend, the trend would be observable over a period of a decade, when the instruments for measuring that trend had steadily improved, and world wide science was focused on the issue of worldwide climate change (as it was on cooling from the 1950s through the 1970s).
