Re: I am being selective

Q: Do you think modern standards of (academic) rigor have no place in or are fundamentally incompatible with Christianity?

Case in point: “I believe that Jesus, being God Himself in person…”

Yes.

Q: Do you think the Bible is not something that can or should be examined from an historical perspective?

Case in point: The Hebrew (aka…apologies to all… the OLD testament…) and the Christian Scriptures…

No.

Q. Is it something else entirely?

Yes.

For me believing Jesus is the Son of God has basically nothing to do with my understanding of "the world" (I'm thinking here of John 15:19) and everything to do with my understanding of who the Person of Jesus Christ is. And, in some ways equally importantly, with my understanding of what He inspired in mankind, which the faithless would mock (not without some truth) as centuries of cruelty and repression, but the faithful know in their hearts is the only way to a kinder, saner, gentler and more compassionate planet.

Uh…good on you.
