Substantive change doesn't happen overnight and when it does, it's very disruptive. Healthcare reform will happen. Republicans are dragging it out - I'm not sure that's a bad thing. We've waited thirty years, a few extra months doesn't seem to me like a big deal. Climate/energy policy under this administration has already achieved the greatest degree of sanity it has ever had. There are three players in this arena - us, China, and everyone else. Legislation is secondary. This is about the two biggest powers on the earth co-operating on resources and technology. This is the most important relationship for the first half of this century. For better or worse, we are wedded to the Middle Kingdom. Whether this is consummated sooner or later is still in question, but at least we're already swapping spit.
