We did have a crisis in insurance when both Medicare and Social Security came into effect which are the same forces which have produced government involvement in both the medical and retirement systems of every advanced industrialized nation. That we face the greatest health insurance crisis of all the industrialized nations and also have the most profit driven one isn't just a random coincidence.

The other insurance markets you refer to are far simpler and more easily regulated than health insurance.
