Funny how the constitution and its level or import always depends on your POV. When Bush was in power and stomping all over it, lying to the people, etc all I got to hear was how he had a "mandate" and how the congress was majority con and the president was con and this all meant my opinion didnt matter anymore because the majority was in power--it was the will of the people (or at least the will of the voting machines). For some reason the constitution wasnt so important then to my friends on the right.
Now maybe you dont remember when the NYC police arrested anyone for protesting within visible sight of the RNC convention came and protestors were literally forced to do it several blocks away (where it wouldnt be seen by anyone at the RNC meetings) but I sure do......the constitution didnt matter then. Legit proof of claims to go to war? Wiretapping without warrants? Rendition of prisnors to nations where torture would be legal? Is this the same constitution we are speaking about TruCon?
And now we have a president who has insisted on pushing his efforts openly through the congressional process so it remains in the process of our government. Yet we have all these tea parties and other efforts as it he were the next Hitler. Sad really.
Just as I can see the "provide for the common defense" part I can also see the "promote the general welfare" part yet no one on the right seems to get that they are of equal worth in that document. The people of the nation agree to live under that government not just to make war on others but also for mutual benefit.
As far as I am concerned the constitution isnt the problem--it is working just fine.
